Brian Roberts and Nick Markakis, key figures in the Orioles' attempt to rebuild the franchise, are optimistic about the club's progress.
"Right now, we're playing good baseball, and it's nice to be here," the veteran Roberts told MLBPLAYERS.com in a recent Players Talk show. "We have some exciting young players and an infusion of new talent and energy. I think our organization did some good things this winter, and it's starting to show a little bit."
Markakis, the centerpiece of the club's youth movement, feels like he's part of something positive that's happening with the club.
"You're doing something everyday that you love. It's something that every little kid dreams of being one day," Markakis said.
"I was just blessed; had the opportunity. I'm out here everyday thankful and taking in as much as I can. It's a great feeling."
In 2007, Brian Roberts set career-highs in stolen bases (50) and hits (180). Markakis showed why he was the seventh overall pick in the 2003 draft, hitting 23 home runs and drive in 112 runs to go along with a .300 batting average.
