D-backs, Thatcher reach one-year deal
By Chris Haft / MLB.com
The Arizona Diamondbacks and left-hander Joe Thatcher skirted a salary-arbitration hearing as the reliever agreed Friday to a one-year contract.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but a Twitter report said that Thatcher is set to make $2.375 million. He earned $1.35 million last year, when he appeared in a career-high 72 games and posted a 3-2 record with a 3.20 ERA.
Thatcher, 32, has steadily established himself as one of the top lefty specialists in the National League. Since 2007, his percentage of inherited runners scored (19.0) is the league's third-best. He has held left-handed batters to a .218 average (79-for-363) in his career, and he has not surrendered a home run to a NL left-handed hitter since San Francisco's Brandon Belt victimized him on Sept. 22, 2012.
