D-backs award Easley, Marzilli and Bradley with monthly honors

The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) named Triple-A Reno Catcher Ed Easley (@EdEasley4) and Single-A Advanced Visalia infielder Evan Marzilli (@marzooch) the organization's Minor League co-Player-of-the-Month and Double-A Mobile right-handed pitcher Archie Bradley (@ArchieBradley7) the Pitcher-of-the-Month for August.

Easley, 27, hit safely in 17 of 23 games with a .402 average (33-for-82), 2 home runs, 15 RBI, 14 runs scored and 13 multi-hit affairs in August for the Aces. His batting average led all Triple-A players and tied for second among all Minor Leaguers in August. A native of Memphis, Tenn., he graduated from Mississippi State University and was the recipient of the 2007 Johnny Bench Award, given to the nation's top collegiate catcher. Easley was drafted by the D-backs in the supplemental first round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft.

Marzilli, 22, hit .333 (34-for-102) with 5 doubles, 3 triples, 3 home runs, 23 RBI and 14 runs scored in 28 games in August for the Rawhide. He began the month with a 13-game hit streak from August 2-16, hitting .396 (19-for-48) with 5 multi-hit games. Marzilli recorded a season-high 5-hit, 5-RBI game vs. Stockton on August 18 with 2 doubles and a triple. The Fall River, Mass. native was drafted by the D-backs in the eighth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft and was a member of the two-time College World Series Champion University of South Carolina baseball team (2010-11).

Bradley, 21, went 6-0 with a 1.24 ERA (5 ER in 36.1 IP), .189 opponents average (23-for-122) and 36 strikeouts in 6 starts for the BayBears. He allowed 2 runs or less in each start. His 6 wins tied for the Minor League lead while his 36 strikeouts were ninth-best in the Southern League. Bradley threw his second complete game of the season on August 2 vs. Jackson, allowing 1 unearned run on 6 hits while striking out 7. On the season, his 14 victories between Visalia and Mobile are tied for third-most in the Minors while his 162 strikeouts are sixth-most. This season, he's been named as Southern League's Most Outstanding Pitcher, a 2013 Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game participant and a Southern League midseason All-Star while garnering Pitcher of the Week honors on three different occasions (California League: April 4-14, Southern League: May 13-19 and July 29-August 5). Bradley entered the 2013 season rated by Baseball America as the top prospect in the California League and the No. 25 Prospect in baseball. A native of Muskogee, Okla., Bradley was drafted in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft.

Every month during the season, the D-backs Player Development staff chooses the player and pitcher most deserving of the honors based on nominations from coaches at each affiliate along with input from the Minor League coordinators.
