Upton named NL Co-Player of the Week

D-backs right fielder Justin Upton led the Majors with 11 RBIs and 27 total bases last week, and he was rewarded by being named the National League Co-Player of the Week, Major League Baseball announced Monday.

Upton shares the award with Padres center fielder Cameron Maybin, who led the Majors with eight stolen bases and tied Upton for the big league lead in hits (14). It is the second career weekly honor for Upton, and also his second this season (June 13-19).

The All-Star hit .519 (14-for-27) last week, with a 1.000 slugging percentage and five doubles.

Upton matched a career high with six RBIs in Saturday's 12-3 rout against the Rockies, hitting his second career grand slam in the seventh inning.

Upton followed that up with a 4-for-5 performance with three RBIs, helping the D-backs take the series over their division rivals.

The 23-year-old former first-round pick is hitting .342 at home this season.
