Goldschmidt, Skaggs get Futures Game nod
By Steve Gilbert / MLB.com
KANSAS CITY -- Two of the D-backs' top prospects will get to show their skills at Chase Field next month as part of the XM All-Star Futures Game. Slugging first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and left-hander Tyler Skaggs were selected to play for the U.S. Team against the World Team. The 13th annual XM All-Star Futures Game can be seen live on MLB.TV, ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD and followed live on MLB.com's Gameday on Taco Bell All-Star Sunday, July 10, at 3 p.m. MST. In addition, XM Radio will broadcast play-by-play coverage of the event live on XM 175. MLB.com will provide complete coverage before, during and after the game, and you can keep up to date by following @MLBFutures on Twitter. Fans can join the Futures Game conversation by tagging tweets with #mlbfutures. Major League Baseball, along with with the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau, MLB.com, Baseball America, USA Baseball and the 30 Major League Baseball clubs, selected the 25-man rosters for each club. Each organization is represented, and the World Team features players from 12 countries and territories. Players from all full-season Minor Leagues were eligible to participate. Goldschmidt, who recently participated in the Double-A All-Star Game, has been raking for Mobile. After making a strong impression on the Major League staff during Spring Training, the 23-year-old carried that over into the regular season and was hitting .328 with 22 homers and 61 RBIs to go along with a .450 on-base percentage and a .656 slugging percentage. There has been speculation that if he keeps producing, Goldschmidt could find himself in the Majors before the end of the season. Skaggs, 19, was acquired from the Angels last summer in a deal that sent Dan Haren to Los Angeles. Pitching for Class A Visalia, Skaggs is 4-5 with a 3.36 ERA in 14 starts. He has fanned 102 and walked 32 in 83 innings.
