D-backs thrilled with All-Star Game logo

PHOENIX -- There was skepticism when Major League Baseball told the Arizona Diamondbacks that it planned on incorporating blue into the logo for the 2011 All-Star Game to be played at Chase Field.

"I said, 'No, I'm not really crazy about seeing blue,'" D-backs team president and CEO Derrick Hall said.

MLB officials asked that Hall at least look at what they came up with before deciding against it.

"When they unveiled it to us the first time it was an automatic yes, because it was the blue of our blue skies," Hall said. "Everyone at MLB said to us that every time we come here you have beautiful blue skies, let's show that in the logo. I'm thrilled with the logo."

The logo has the words "All-Star Game" across it in the same font the D-backs use on their uniforms. The letters are in the club's Sonoran Sand color and the logo also incorporates the team's other two colors -- black and Sedona Red.

The backdrop for the logo is a red-rock mountain range.

"It incorporates a little bit of the mountains, it's got our font, a Diamondback feel about it," Hall said. "I'm very pleased with the way the logo turned out. It looks good on merchandise, it looks good on baseballs, it looks good on caps."

The light blue is in the shape of a diamond around the logo and serves as the blue sky behind the mountain range.

Merchandise with the 2011 All-Star Game logo can be purchased online or at the Chase Field Team Shop.

"I'm a little biased, but I think this is the best logo I've seen for an All-Star Game," Hall said. "It's one that I think is setting the bar now."
