The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Jarrod Parker from Double-A Mobile and designated infielder Tommy Manzella for assignment, according to D-backs' Executive Vice President and General Manager Kevin Towers.

Parker, 22, was 11-8 with a 3.79 ERA (55 ER in 130.2 IP) and .236 opponents average (112-for-474) with 55 walks and 112 strikeouts in 26 games for the BayBears in his first full season since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2009. Among all Southern League pitchers, he ranked second in opponents average, tied for second in wins and fifth in ERA. Parker entered this season rated by Baseball America as the D-backs' top prospect for the third consecutive year. Over parts of three minor league seasons, he owns a 28-19 and 3.49 ERA (134 ER in 345.2 IP) with 126 walks and 324 strikeouts in 70 games. Parker was selected by the D-backs in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft. He will wear No. 56 for his first stint in the Major Leagues.

Manzella, 28, hit .246 (15-for-61) with 7 runs, a home run and 3 RBI in 22 games with Triple-A Reno. He was claimed off waivers from the Houston Astros on Aug. 11.

The D-backs active roster is at 32 players and the 40-man roster is at its full complement.
