D-backs' Reynolds named to the Sporting News NL All-Star Team

(PHOENIX) - Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Mark Reynolds has been named to The Sporting News National League All-Star Team, as selected by a panel of 338 players voting on the players awards and 22 mangers voting on the managerial awards.
Reynolds, 26, established himself as an elite slugger in only his third season in the Majors, setting career highs with 155 games, 150 hits, 30 doubles, 44 home runs, 102 RBI, 24 stolen bases and a .543 slugging percentage. Among NL leaders, he ranked fourth with 44 home runs and tied for 10th with 102 RBI. He became the ninth player since 1954 to post a .260 average, 44 home runs, 102 RBI and 24 stolen bases in a season, joining Hank Aaron (Milwaukee Braves in 1963), Ken Griffey Jr. (Seattle in 1999), Barry Bonds (San Francisco in 1993), Alex Rodriguez (New York Yankees in 2007), Chipper Jones (Atlanta in 1999), Jose Canseco (Oakland in 1991), Larry Walker (Rockies in 1997) and Willie Mays (New York Giants in 1955). Among third baseman since 1954, he is the eighth to hit at least .260 with 44 home runs and 102 RBI, joining Vinny Castilla (Rockies in 1998), Troy Glaus (Anaheim in 2000), Chipper Jones (Atlanta in 1999), Eddie Mathews (Milwaukee Braves in 1953 and 1959), Adrian Beltre (Los Angeles-NL in 2004) and Mike Schmidt (Phillies in 1980).
Reynolds is the fourth D-back to be named to The Sporting News National League All-Star team, joining outfielder Luis Gonzalez (2001), right-handed pitcher Curt Schilling (2001, 2002) and left-handed pitcher Randy Johnson (2001, 2002). Other recipients of The Sporting News' awards include former Manager Bob Melvin, who was named NL Manager of the Year in 2007; right-handed pitcher Curt Schilling, who was named NL Pitcher of the Year in 2001 and 2002 and the Sportsman of the Year in 2001; and right-handed pitcher Jose Valverde, who was named the NL Reliever of the Year in 2007.
