Braves second baseman Dan Uggla began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday and went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. He was removed in the top of the seventh inning.
Uggla has been on the disabled list since Aug. 13 after undergoing LASIK surgery to improve his eyesight. He has hit .186 with 10 doubles, three triples, 21 home runs and 53 RBIs in 112 games with Atlanta this season.
Uggla struck out swinging in the first inning against Norfolk Tides left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada, then grounded into a double play in the bottom of the third. He was called out on strikes in the fifth against Wada to end his evening. The Gwinnett Braves were trailing, 12-1, at the time Uggla came out of the game.
