PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies' run in Sunday's eighth inning hurt the D-backs for more reasons than the sheer fact that it tied the game.
Catcher Henry Blanco and right-handed reliever David Hernandez both left the game with injuries stemming from the play. Philadelphia outfielder Domonic Brown laced an infield single off Hernandez's right leg, and on the ensuing play at the plate, Blanco injured his left thumb when John Mayberry Jr. slid into him.
Blanco underwent X-rays and said he might have some ligament damage in his thumb. After the game, he couldn't move his thumb much. He said the next step is to undergo an MRI.
Hernandez (1-2, 2.68), who walked with a slight limp in the clubhouse after the game, didn't need an X-ray. He said his leg felt "really sore." He didn't think it was anything serious, but said the team would re-evaluate on Monday.
The D-backs start a four-game series in Pittsburgh on Monday.
"We'll play it by ear," Hernandez said. "Sometimes it gets worse when you fly. We'll see tomorrow. I'll get in early, get some treatment."
