The Arizona Diamondbacks will honor all active, reserve and retired military members and their families during Military Appreciation Night on July 4 at 6:40 p.m. at Chase Field. The Fourth of July celebration will be highlighted by a special post-game fireworks display (weather permitting) presented by Gila River Casinos and 20,000 fans will receive a D-backs Fourth of July T-shirt courtesy of Ram Trucks as they enter the stadium. D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall and Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton will host a news conference Monday, July 2 at 10:30 a.m. in the City Hall Atrium to discuss the welcome back event at Chase Field.
On July 4, Hall and Stanton will welcome 25 military families representing all five branches, including Air Force, Coast Guard, Navy, Marines and Army and 20 veterans from prior eras as they enter the field. Other pregame activities include:
-One representative from all five branches will throw out the first pitch
-National anthem will be sung by Chief Warrant Officer 2 Mark C. Head from the Arizona Army National Guard
-Color guard will include members from each branch of the military for a joint presentation of the colors
-Nearly 50 citizens will take an oath of enlistment on the field representing all five branches of the military
-The D-backs and Blue Star Moms will present three military families with the American flag to honor their lost loved ones
-The D-backs will ask for all active, reserve and retired military members, including D-backs employees who have served, to stand and be recognized for their service
In addition, the D-backs and Chase will recognize Purple Heart veteran Michael Proscia and present him with a key to his new home. Chase has provided Proscia with the mortgage-free home award which allows Proscia to move into his new home immediately. The Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation provided outdoor furniture and other needed items for Proscia to enjoy. The D-backs and Chase welcomed Proscia into his new home on June 28. The D-backs, Chase and D-backs pitcher Brad Ziegler have teamed up to donate more than 1,200 tickets to military families to enjoy the game as part of the team’s “Seats for Soldiers” program. In addition, the D-backs are offering a 50 percent discount on tickets for all active, reserve and retired military with a valid military ID.
The D-backs will also host “Mystery Ball” in which fans can purchase grab bags for $50 each and will have the opportunity to select from more than 800 options with the chance of opening a ball signed by an MLB player or potentially a Hall of Famer. Fans can also purchase raffle tickets to win an autographed Ken Griffey, Jr. jersey. Raffle tickets are $5 each, six for $25 or 15 for $50 and can be purchased at the Mystery Ball table. Proceeds from the Mystery Ball and jersey raffle will benefit Ziegler’s charity “Pastime for Patriots.”
As part of the Fourth of July festivities, radio talent Johnjay & Rich from 104.7 KISS-FM will host Tailgate Games starting at 5 p.m. in the upper level of Chase Field. Fans can compete in old favorites like cornhole, Bimini Rings, ring toss and many more for a chance to win prizes such as game tickets and autographed memorabilia.
