D-backs to open '12 slate at home vs. Giants
Interleague schedule includes series against AL West, Royals
LOS ANGELES -- The D-backs will open the 2012 season on April 6 at home against the Giants, the team they are currently battling for the National League West title.
After the three-game series with the Giants, the D-backs have a six-game trip to San Diego and Denver.
After battling the American League Central in 2011, the D-backs will take on the American League West and the Kansas City Royals from the Central in Interleague Play in 2012
Arizona will host the A's on June 8-10 and the Mariners on June 18-20.
The D-backs will play Interleague games on the road against the Royals on May 18-20, the Rangers on June 12-14 and the Angels on June 15-17.
The D-backs play each NL team from the other two divisions once on the road and once at home except for the Cubs, whom the D-backs will host twice. The Cubs will visit Chase Field June 22-24 as well as Sept. 28-30.
Arizona will travel to Chicago to play the Cubs July 13-15, the club's first series after the All-Star Game, which is set for Kansas City.
Just like the 2011 schedule, the D-backs will wrap up the regular season at Chase Field. The Rockies will follow the Cubs into Phoenix for the season's final three games.
The D-backs and Giants have developed quite a rivalry in Arizona's 14 years in the league. The D-backs won the NL West in 1999, 2001, 2002, 2007 and lead the Giants for the 2011 crown. San Francisco, meanwhile, won the West in 2000, 2003 and 2010.
Should the two teams be at the top of the West again next year, it will make for an interesting stretch drive considering they play each other nine times in the final 27 games. Six of those games will take place at AT&T Park.
The D-backs have what figures to be a tough 10-game road swing to Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego from Aug. 30-Sept. 9.
That is one of three 10-game road trips for the D-backs. They also will travel to Florida, Washington and New York from April 27-May 6 and Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh from July 30-Aug. 9.
