TUCSON, Ariz. -- The D-backs signed 20 pre-arbitration players and renewed the contracts of two others Thursday.

The two players who had their contracts renewed, which is something teams can do with players not yet eligible for salary arbitration, were pitcher Ian Kennedy and third baseman Mark Reynolds.

That Reynolds was renewed was not a surprise as he told reporters last week that the D-backs informed him they were going to renew him at $500,000 while talks continued on a multiyear deal.

The players who signed contracts include pitchers Bryan Augenstein, Billy Buckner, Juan Gutierrez, Zach Kroenke, Jose Marte, Roque Mercedes, Kevin Mulvey, Jordan Norberto, Daniel Stange, Cesar Valdez, Esmerling Vasquez and Clay Zavada; infielders Tony Abreu, Brandon Allen, Pedro Ciriaco, Ryan Roberts and Rusty Ryal; outfielders Cole Gillespie and Gerardo Parra; and catcher John Hester.
