Diamondbacks' Garfinkel resigns

Executive brought to club by former CEO Moorad

04/05/09 1:50 AM ET

PHOENIX -- Tom Garfinkel, the Diamondbacks' executive vice president and chief operating officer, resigned on Saturday.

Team president and CEO Derrick Hall confirmed the resignation.

Garfinkel oversaw the business side of things for the D-backs, including marketing, ticket sales, corporate partnerships and sales. Before joining the D-backs in 2006, Garfinkel was the executive vice president of the Chip Ganassi Racing Teams.

It was not immediately known what Garfinkel's plans were, but his departure was not unexpected since he was brought to Arizona by then D-backs CEO Jeff Moorad. Once Moorad resigned in January in order to purchase the San Diego Padres, speculation immediately surfaced that Garfinkel would join him in some capacity.
