Cubs at the plate: Brad Snyder and Mike Fontenot hit back-to-back homers to give the Cubs the lead in the eighth inning, and Welington Castillo added a two-run shot later in the inning. The Cubs managed just one hit the first time through the lineup, but the second time around they found their footing against Brandon Webb. Joey Gathright singled with two outs in the third and after Ryan Theriot worked a walk, Micah Hoffpauir hit the first pitch just to the right of the batter's eye in center for a three-run homer. Joey Gathright had three stolen bases.
D-backs at the plate: Chris Snyder got the Arizona offense going with a homer to lead off the third. It was the catcher's second of the spring, both of which have come against the Cubs. Justin Upton doubled home Josh Wilson in the third, and Chad Tracy capped the three-run frame by drawing a bases-loaded walk. Mark Reynolds hit his first homer of the spring in the sixth.Cubs on the mound: Rich Harden retired the first six D-backs he faced before allowing a homer to Snyder. The right-hander was not able to get through three innings as he was removed with two outs and the bases loaded. Kevin Hart struck out the first three batters he faced and worked a perfect 1 1/3 innings. D-backs on the mound: Webb had his longest outing of the spring as he was able to get through four. All of the damage was done on the three-run homer by Hoffpauir in the third. Closer Chad Qualls threw a scoreless inning of relief of Webb.
Cactus League records: Cubs 9-10; D-backs 6-9Up next: The D-backs play host to the Rockies on Monday afternoon at Tucson Electric Park. Arizona will send right-hander Cesar Valdez to the mound. Valdez was named the organization's Pitcher of the Year in 2008, when he split time between Class A Visalia and Double-A Mobile.
