Medders, Petit round out D-backs roster
Each earns spot in Arizona bullpen; Peguero sent to Tucson
PHOENIX -- Brandon Medders and Yusmeiro Petit won the final two spots in the D-backs bullpen on Friday.
The pair were in competition with Dustin Nippert and Jailen Peguero for the spots. The D-backs traded Nippert to the Rangers earlier Friday and Peguero was optioned to Triple-A Tucson following Friday's exhibition game against the Rockies. The decision was a tough one for manager Bob Melvin, given how well Peguero had pitched. The right-hander finished the spring with a 2.45 ERA. "Peguero's been throwing the ball extremely well," Melvin said. "I'd be shocked if Jailen Peguero wasn't a part of this team at some point this year." The bullpen will include Brandon Lyon, Tony Pena, Chad Qualls, Juan Cruz, Doug Slaten, Petit and Medders.Steve Gilbert is a reporter for MLB.com.
