BREWERS 9, DIAMONDBACKS 2
at Tucson, Ariz.
Monday, March 26

Brewers at the plate: The Brewers sent 10 men to the plate during a seven-run third innning. J.J. Hardy drove in a pair of runs during the frame. Vinny Rottino led off the inning with his third home run of the spring and also added a two-run double later in the frame.

D-backs at the plate: Justin Upton got the D-backs on the board in the fifth when he tripled home Brian Barden, who had been hit by a pitch. Upton then scored on Dave Krynzel's sacrifice fly.

Brewers on the mound: Starter Claudio Vargas pitched well against his former team. The right-hander had a no-hitter through 4 1/3 before Upton's triple. Vargas allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in seven innings. He struck out three.

D-backs on the mound: It was a strange afternoon for starter Enrique Gonzalez. The right-hander retired the first six batters he faced before allowing a seven-run third inning. After that he then went on to retire six straight.

Cactus League records: Brewers 11-15; D-backs 16-10.

Up next: The Brewers play host to the A's on Tuesday, with Dave Bush getting the start against left-hander Joe Kennedy. Meanwhile, the D-backs will take on the Rockies at Tucson Electric Park. Dana Eveland will start for the D-backs with Juan Cruz, Doug Slaten and D.J. Carrasco scheduled to follow.
