D-Backs get back on winning track
By Rich Draper / MLB.com

PHOENIX -- After some distasteful San Francisco baseball cuisine, the Diamondbacks rediscovered their favorite dish -- a victory -- on some good ol' home cookin' Monday night, as they topped the Padres, 5-2, at Bank One Ballpark.

Randy Johnson upped his record to 21-5 and Erubiel Durazo hit the first Diamondbacks' homer in 45 innings as Arizona broke a three-game losing streak and boosted its record this season against San Diego here to 7-1.

Johnson, who won for the eighth time in his last nine decisions, gave up his lone run in the sixth inning on Ron Gant's 18th homer of the season. He struck out seven batters over seven innings, including Gene Kingsale in the seventh, marking his 300th strikeout of the year. It was his Major League-record fifth consecutive season fanning that many players.

The Big Unit also singled in the fourth inning to drive home a run in his fourth consecutive game, tying the club record with eight RBIs this season by a pitcher.

Closer Byung-Hyun Kim pitched the ninth to earn his 33rd save.

Losing pitcher Brett Tomko (9-9) allowed nine Arizona hits over five innings. The Padres have lost four straight games at Bank One Ballpark.

Durazo slammed his 16th homer of the year -- his first since Aug. 17 and the team's initial blast in five games -- in the second inning, then Matt Williams followed with a triple to right field. San Diego second baseman Julius Matos made an error on the relay throw to third, allowing Williams to score.

It was Williams' first triple since July 21, 2000, off Cincinnati's Scott Sullivan. The third baseman also added two singles off Tomko.

Tony Womack singled in the third to give him an 11-game hitting streak, and then scored on Junior Spivey's fielder's choice to make is 3-0. In the fourth frame, Williams hit an infield single and later came home on Johnson's base hit. Womack singled again, driving in David Dellucci.

San Diego scored once in the eighth when Bubba Trammell singled and eventually came home on Matos' groundout.

In Tuesday night's matchup, Curt Schilling seeks his 23rd win, opposing the Padres' Jake Peavy (5-6).
