December 18, 1973 > The New York Yankees name recently-resigned Oakland A's skipper Dick Williams to be their new manager. However, A's owner Charlie Finley refuses to let the Yankees hire Williams without compensation, eventually negating the deal. Williams will return to the managing ranks when he takes over the California Angels' helm just after the 1974 All-Star break.
