July 8, 1912 > After starting off the season with 19 consecutive wins, Rube Marquard of the New York Giants finally tastes defeat when the Chicago Cubs hand him a 7-2 loss. Marquard, who will go on to win 26 games in 1912, still holds the record for most consecutive wins to begin a season.
