Focus Area
Comments
Fastball:White has an above-average fastball and he threw it 89-95 mph. It sat comfortably at around 91 mph.
Fastball movement:It has good life, with some tail and hard sink.
Curve:It's a get-me-over pitch. It's just OK and he doesn't throw it much.
Slider:It's a plus pitch which he throws in the low-to-mid 80s
Changeup:He barely shows one and when he does, it's maybe average.
Control:His command is not awful, but it's not great. Because of some kinks in this delivery, he sometimes elevates his fastball too much.
Poise:Mound presence is fine.
Physical Description:White has a good pitcher's body, with a thinner frame and good shoulders. He should be able to add some strength as he matures.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:Two plus pitches, a track record of success.
Weaknesses: He doesn't have the best delivery and that causes some command problems.
Summary:White was a top high school prospect in 2006, but went to UNC instead. He's still one of the better arms now, though his performance in the spring has been a little uneven. He does have plus stuff with a fastball-slider combination along with the makings of two other pitches. He doesn't always command his fastball that well, but that could be corrected with some mechanical tweaks. With his stuff and his track record, he's likely to go pretty early on Draft Day.
