FSN Arizona to become exclusive TV home for the D-backs starting next season

FSN Arizona and the Arizona Diamondbacks have announced a new long-term television rights agreement that will make FSN Arizona the exclusive telecast rights holder for the D-backs starting next season. Under the terms of the new agreement, the network will televise up to 150 games each year, making it the one and only regional television provider for Arizona Diamondbacks games. Financial details were not disclosed.

The increase of 150 televised games a season represents a significant rise in the amount of D-backs telecasts FSN Arizona will offer to its 2.8 million viewers in Arizona and New Mexico. From 1998-2005, the network televised 60 regular season games each season. That figure rose to 70 games in 2006 and this season, FSN Arizona is televising 75 D-backs games. This deal also allows the network to televise three Spring Training games, just as it has done in past years.

The agreement marks yet another example of the investment FSN Arizona is making to ensure that we offer television's best local sports programming lineup."

"Carrying all television broadcasts on a cable network allows teams to provide more ancillary programming for their fans, In addition to the games being televised, we are able to commit to Diamondbacks coverage both before and after each telecast, free of any primetime programming conflicts. We continue to provide over-the-air broadcasts in Spanish language, which provides another outlet for our loyal fan base."

In addition to 150 live game telecasts each season, FSN Arizona will also continue to showcase the Arizona Diamondbacks via numerous different programming platforms, including the Qwest Diamondbacks Live post-game show, Arizona Ford Diamondbacks Live pre-game show, In My Own Words profiles and D-backs Insider. With this new partnership, FSN Arizona further increases its position as the television network viewers can turn to in order to get the most extensive, innovative and exciting coverage of the team.

Historically, Arizona Diamondbacks games have generated FSN Arizona's highest television ratings since the network launched on Sept. 7, 1996. In fact, the 27 highest rated telecasts in FSN Arizona's history are all D-backs games (game 28 in the list is a UA/ASU football game from 1997). The top-rated telecast of all-time on the network was a Diamondbacks game against Colorado on July 23, 2002, that registered a 14.0 rating.

FSN Arizona, the state's only all-sports regional television network, now owns multi-year television rights to not only the D-backs, but with the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Coyotes, Arizona Cardinals, University of Arizona, Arizona State University, Phoenix Mercury and the Arizona Rattlers.

FSN Arizona, which is celebrating its 10th year on the air, televises the most regional sports action in the state and is the exclusive cable television home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Coyotes, Phoenix Suns, Arizona Cardinals, Arizona State University, University of Arizona, Arizona Rattlers and Phoenix Mercury. FSN Arizona is currently seen in 2.8 million households in Arizona & New Mexico and can also be seen across the country via home satellite services.
