D-backs shed their skin after unveiling new uniforms, colors on runway11/08/2006 11:00 PM ET
(SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks tonight unveiled their new uniforms and logos featuring new colors -- Sedona Red, Sonoran Sand and black -- when D-backs players donned the updated garments with female fashion models at an invitation-only event at the Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale.
The landmark event featured manager Bob Melvin along with first basemen Conor Jackson and Tony Clark, Gold Glove second baseman Orlando Hudson, shortstop Stephen Drew, catcher Chris Snyder and outfielders Eric Byrnes, Chris Young and Carlos Quentin showcasing the new uniforms with models from the Leighton Agency in Scottsdale on the runway. The female models wore fashionable clothes in Sedona Red, Sonoran Sand and black hues donated by Monique/Mason, with hair and makeup styled by Rolf's Salon.
"We are extremely excited to unveil our new brand to our loyal and passionate fans," said D-backs President Derrick Hall. "Our new Sedona Red, Sonoran Sand and black colors were chosen to better represent the personality and beauty of Arizona."
Valley-based design firm Campbell Fisher Design, along with Major League Baseball Properties, worked with club executives over the past year in choosing the new color palette and designing the new logos. The team chose Sedona Red for its new red color due to its similarity to the famous red rocks in the northern Arizona town of Sedona and to continue the tradition of making the colors representative of the state. Sonoran Sand was chosen for the new beige color and named after the Sonoran Desert, the arid region covering most of southwestern Arizona.
The new color palette of Sedona Red, Sonoran Sand and black replaces the color scheme of turquoise, copper, black and purple used since the franchise was first awarded in 1995. The club's new home white uniforms feature new script lettering, with "D-backs" in Sedona Red with black and Sonoran Sand trim. The new road grey uniforms include updated "Arizona" lettering in Sedona Red. Alternate jerseys are black with the customary "A" logo in Sedona Red and a Sedona Red jersey with the "D-backs" script in Sonoran Sand with black trim. All four jerseys will include a new sleeve patch featuring a lower-case "d" and "b" set aside to form a snakehead.
The new caps are Sedona Red with an updated black snake "D" logo trimmed in Sonoran Sand. An alternate black cap, only to be worn with the alternate black jerseys, features the "A" logo in Sedona Red.
New D-backs merchandise will be available for purchase at dbacks.com starting this evening and at the D-backs Team Shop at Chase Field beginning tomorrow at 9 a.m.
The D-backs would also like to thank Miller Brewing, Michael-David Vineyards and Stockholm Krystal Vodka for contributing product for the event, as well as The RoomStore for donating furniture to the VIP lounge area created at the Hotel Valley Ho. Molina Fine Jewelry, The Melting Pot, Sprint, Crocs, Radiance Medspa and Bondurant Racing School also donated items for the guests who attended the event.
