Diamondbacks name Kevin Seitzer hitting coach

PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday announced that Kevin Seitzer has agreed to a one-year contract to serve as the club's hitting coach. Consistent with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Seitzer, 44, played in parts of 12 Major League seasons. He owns a .295 career average with 74 home runs and 613 RBIs in 1,439 games. He began his career in the Majors with the Kansas City Royals in 1986 and spent parts of six seasons there. He played with the Milwaukee Brewers on two occasions, the Oakland A's and was a member of the 1997 American League champion Cleveland Indians.

He and former Major Leaguer Mike Macfarlane co-own an instructional baseball school in Kansas City that opened in 1996.
