Break a Bat, Plant a Tree

Break a Bat, Plant a TreeBreak a Bat, Plant a Tree is a partnership between the Arizona Lottery and the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation. Another important initiative in the D-backs Give Back sustainability program, Break a Bat, Plant a Tree will provide desert-adapted shade trees in area parks.

During the 2014 season, each time a D-backs pitcher broke the bat of an opposing player, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and Arizona Lottery made a charitable contribution that will provide shade trees in city parks in Phoenix and surrounding communities.

Total bats broken were 210. The City of Phoenix will plant 100 trees in area parks. On Saturday, September 27, D-backs EVP, Cullen Maxey, Vice Mayor, Jim Waring and City of Phoenix personnel participated in a pregame ceremony. Trees will be planted this fall.
