Baxter - D. Baxter The Bobcat
Baxter came out of the bag on June 23, 2000. The idea for the Bobcat came from Brantley Bell, 5 year-old son of Diamondbacks Second Baseman Jay Bell. Brantley suggested the name BOB Cat for the mascot because the Diamondbacks originally played in Bank One Ballpark, commonly referred to as the B.O.B.

Being a native of the American Southwest, Baxter has long legs, large paws and weighs somewhere between 15 and 150 pounds.

Some people may wonder why the Diamondbacks came up with a bobcat as a mascot, especially since the team's name is synonymous with another well-known Southwestern creature, the rattlesnake. Let's put it this way, would you be more comfortable around a venomous, rubbery-feeling snake, or a furry cat that looks like a Tigger with big ears?
